LET'S GROW OLD TOGETHER

in black and white pictures, people in their late 70's and above were the main highlight on one of the parts of the straits times today. not young, skinny, pretty girls donned in the latest fashion and wearing skyscraper heels; of which you'd usually see spread across glossy magazines.

what caught my attention while I was reading newspaper during breakfast was not some pretty, skinny models or hunky 6 pack abs guys but mere elderly people who lead their respective ordinary life in extraordinary ways.

growing old isn't easy. as you grow older, everyone around you slowly past away and you're left alone. with grief and sadness who're left to acompany you. I realised that the common thing amongst all the elderly featured, was their faith, optimistic view in life, passion, friends and most importantly their love ones that keep them going.

I admired a particular old man who is in his 90's. He drove the reporter in his mercedes (they had a smooth ride) and they dine at a country club (he's a regular there!) not far away from his bungalow. best part, he has perfect eyesight and he doesn't need glasses even when he reads! besides age, he has already beat me in the battle of eyesight. ( my right eye has a degree of 525 and my left, 500. without my glasses or contacts, I'm as blind as a bat!)

it's normal to think of old people as old fashion, stubborn and slow. I believe that they've experience life much more than we have. as the saying goes, "they've eaten more salt than I have eaten rice". how true. I truly respect all the elderly out there who lead a simple, happy life and go through each day as it is. not worrying or even afraid of dying as they walk this long journey of life, a day at a time.

I hope to age gracefully and grow old with my husband. life is precious and I'm thankful for life all around me(:
