'mother andrina'

going community

indeed I had a 'super weekend'. last saturday, 24th july, my church youth went all out for the going community event. so what did we do? we helped to clean the one room flats of the elderly at sim lin road??

I prepared myself mentally for the worst. dusty floors, cockroaches and ants crawling everywhere... I thought that it'd be like the show on channel 5, renovAID! it turns out that the old woman whom we helped to clean her house, was clean! her white tiles showed no signed of dust and it was neat and well kept. initially, we talked to her in our horrendous mandarin and she stopped us and said, "could you speak in english?" we were more than happy to!

I really thank God for how truly bless I am. it pains me to know that there's people out there who are living in a house that is as big as 3/4 the size of my hall...

the island

that was the theme of youth alive's 19 anniversary. the hall of paya lebar methodist girls school was painstakingly transformed into an island on 25th july. I marveled at the youth anniversary committee's effort. from the skit, to the decorations! my eyes were on the teary side towards the end of the skit as I could feel the emotion of the story building up at the end. well done everyone! I'm so proud of my church youth(: and extremely proud of my cell girls as they went all out and wore sundresses! ( they only wear dresses when forced to)I feel like a mother to 9 girls. speaking of that, they call me 'mother andrina'. no kidding! and boy! going shopping with 6 girls to get their sundresses at 313 somerset ( that was the attire for the ushers)ain't easy! hahahhas

am so thankful that my best friend (since secondary 1)made the effort to come down and visit my church. we shared our beliefs and at the end of the day, I've learnt more about her.

honestly, I couldn't wait for last week to be over and now that it came to pass, I'm thankful that I was deeply humbled by what I've seen and learn over the weekend. with my two hands (small and scrawny), I'm gonna make a difference in my world.

I wish..

it all started with my nose. my mom was saying that she likes my dad double eye lit eyes and sharp nose and I started my first 'I wish' by wishing that I had a sharper nose. followed by wishing that I was skinner (especially my sea manetee liked thighs) and wished my mom had to tell me to eat more (instead of eating less ice cream cos I used to eat it everyday till I had double chin)instead of constantly having to tell my brother to put on weight as currently, he's like a tall, skinny white guy.

I got more demoralized after each wish, " I wish I were taller, smarter (one that goes to an elite secondary school followed by jc and finally into a local university!!), had bigger eyes, longer eye lashes, tone body... and the list goes on.

I realized that all my wishing was getting me absolutely no where. and it hit me, that instead of wishing, I should do something about it.
want a fitter and tone body? exercise! (that's what my jiggly thighs and flabby arms shout in unison, EXERCISE!!). I now run on the treadmill once a week (hey that's a huge improvement as compared to my previous exercise routine which consisted of chasing after the bus and or flagging the bus? laughs. oh and climbing the stairs of the overhead bridge(: ) want to be smarter? I've gotta spend more quality time at my pretty study table accompanied with lecture notes...

there's one thing I didn't wish for, and that was, cooler family and friends(: I couldn't ask for better friends (you know who you are, yes you!). ones who love me for who I really am, still talk to me even I were to wear the same pair of jeans 3 times a week? I've got an awesome family which includes an ever supportive mother, doting father and irritating brother (kidding! my brother's one of my best friend at home(:), and ever helpful domestic helper that's been with my family for the past 9years? (she so qualifies for the long service domestic worker award).

so every time I start to wish for something, I'd work towards being the change that I wanna see...

LOVE

don't think I do not know what's going through your mind, 'andrina's in love?!' laughs. NAH! here's a list of things that are my new found love(:

(isn't zakumi, south africa's mascot the cutest? love its green hair<3

#1. soccer! can you believe it? even I can't. it was an accidental love when it all started last week? where I was supposed to just tell my dad the link to watch the worldcup online (given by my very helpful classmates), the match was germany vs england and of cos I supported GERMANY! it was the first match that my dad and I supported different teams and I went to sleep with a smile on my face(: I enjoyed bonding with my dad over worldcup as he patiently explains and answers all my questions during the match, as we ate peanuts! hahahas.

I was extremely heartbroken when brazil lost to netherland! my dad reminded me that soccer wasnt for the fainthearted. I believe that brazil did put up a good fight and held their heads high throughout the match. sure, there were lotsa hiccups, but in my heart, brazil, you are the true winner and will always be<3 this worldcup is so unpredictable with all the countries that you never knew could play soccer, emerge as the underdogs! and all the favorites and strong teams like england, japan (sobs) and brazil (sniffs) were flirting their loss. who'd win? I dont know! but I'm sure it'd be an interesting worldcup(:

#2.I LOVE HYDRANGEA! ( it sounds like a name of a 'female' fire hydrant) google that and you'll find a really pretty flower in the shape of a pom pom, comes with pretty hues of pink, blue and purple! it is also one of most expensive flowers in the world, ranking at number3(: the first? the casablanca lily! tulips, also my favorite, ranks at number 10. not bad, you lovely flowers(: I came across hydrengea at the official opening of studio m hotel where I worked part time during my recent holiday, and boy! was it love at first sight. I knew I had extremely insightful and good taste of expensive things! I just cant help it. *winks. am not hinting anybody or anyone, but I'm ditching sunflowers for hydrangea and tulips!

#3.last but not ever the least, FASHION! I always appreciate them and ever have a flare for pretty and funky clothes(: love browsing clothes online (who doesnt? unless you're a guy!)and especially like it the way they mix and match and pull off clothes effortlessly. one word, inspired! I'll never forget what my dear friend, anna said, "clothes are an investment!" I couldnn't agree less(: my favorite sites? thetinselrack, odoriko ya,ohvola... (just to name a FEW).
by shopping online, I contribute to the economy by keeping it spinning madly, hedge against the future, and support local products! see! that's killing a bird with a bunch of stones (I know it sounds cruel but YEAH! hahahahhas

life couldn't be better, now that it's almost coming to a month in my new house<3 so how am I, if you might ask? I've never been better(: *beams
